What purpose to PERMETEX® protection products serve?

Insect-borne diseases (vector-borne diseases) are a growing problem in the course of global warming. Rising temperatures lead to the spread and increase of new and existing infectious diseases. Further factors of this development are linked to globalization. The popularity of long-distance travel and the increased long-distance trade are considered as the decisive causes of adventive and unintentionally widespread infectious diseases. There is neither a drug treatment nor a vaccination against many of these pathogens.
PERMETEX® products have been specially developed as a preventive measure for protection from insects.

What do the PERMETEX® protection products protect from?

The PERMETEX products protect against a variety of insects such as ticks, bedbugs, moths, head lice, mites, fleas, ants, flies, mosquitoes and the like. Thus, you provide protection from vector-borne diseases such as leishmaniosis, Lyme borreliosis, early summer meningo encephalitis (TME), dengue fever, yellow fever, chagas disease, African sleeping sickness, Hanta virus infection, malaria, et al.

What distinguishes PERMETEX® products from other insect protection products?

Commercially available textile products for insect protection are impregnated (sprayed) or soaked (dipping) with insect repellent active ingredients.  When impregnated or soaked, the active substance is applied superficially. These methods have three obvious drawbacks: they require a high insecticide concentration, the application of the active ingredient is uneven, and the efficacy decreases significantly after a few washes.
PERMETEX® products are characterized by a patented and unique manufacturing process in Europe. In this method, the insect repellent active ingredient permethrin is anchored directly into the fibre of the substance (permethrin polymer coating method).  This method can provide reliable protection with a significantly lower active ingredient concentration. The equipment is spread evenly over the material and is effective throughout the life of the products.
PERMETEX® products provide long-lasting protection and do not require any post-treatment (impregnation).
PERMETEX® products are more efficient, more ecological and safer.

What is the material of the PERMETEX® protective products?

The material is easy to clean, breathable and hard-wearing.
The substance is equipped with permethrin (0.9% w/w). The protection function is invisible and odourless.
The material has been tested and approved according to the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO). Manufactured according to NATO standards. It is also investigated and confirmed by scientists of the German army.
All materials used are certified according to OEKO-Tex Standard 100. (OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 is an independent testing and certification system for textile raw, intermediate and final products of all processing stages. The certificate is a trustworthy standard for the objective assessment of the environmental impact achieved at the site in question.)

How long does the protection of PERMETEX® protect your products?

The protective function of the PERMETEX® products remains effective over the products’ entire life span - optimum protection for up to 100 washes.

How environmentally sustainable works the company PERMETEX®?

PERMETEX GmbH is continuously working on its eco-optimization. The production is resource-conserving, ecological and sustainable. Thus, the manufacturing process of the fabric is designed so that after-treatment of the products is not necessary and thus the general use of the active ingredient is reduced to a minimum. The longevity of the products protects the environment. Where possible, recycled materials are used. The raw material of the yarn yields recycled beverage bottles made from 100% PET. PERMETEX® deliberately refrains from outer packaging and additional information and advertising materials. The packaging material is recyclable. The products are shipped with DHL GoGreen.

How does the active ingredient permethrin work? Is the active ingredient in the PERMETEX® protection products harmful to health?

Permethrin is the synthetic reproduction of a natural insect repellent, produced on the basis of the insect repellent protection of chrysanthemums. On insects, permethrin acts as a strong repellent upon touching (repellent). If insects touch the material, they avoid any further contact (HOT FEET EFFECT). Insects have highly sensory organs with nerve endings on the soles of the feet and probe tips. Upon contact with the active ingredient (contact insecticide), insects trigger 'hot feet'. In the case of prolonged contact, the permethrin is toxic to the insects. Permethrin has been classified as a hazardous substance according to European Hazardous Substances Act and is already very toxic to water organisms with long-term effects in very low concentrations. Permethrin has a high skin sensitizing potential. Due to the low acute toxicity in humans, permethrin is recommended by the WHO and NATO as an insect repellent even in crises areas. Pursuant to Regulation 119/2014/EU, permethrin is an authorized biocidal active substance for use in biocidal products (insect control and wood preservatives).

Are the PERMETEX® protection products suitable for risk groups?

In principle, the proportionality of the risks is decisive. Compared to the risks of an infectious disease, the risk of temporary contact with the active ingredient is minimal. The substance Permethrin may evoke allergic skin reactions. So far no case of allergic reaction to PERMETEX® protection products is known.

For which animals are PERMETEX® protection products not recommended?

Cats lack a necessary enzyme to degrade permethrin.
Direct contact with the products should therefore be avoided.

What must be taken into account when using the PERMETEX® protective products?

PERMETEX® protective products have been developed primarily as a preventive measure. Insect protection products cannot guarantee 100% protection. By using the PERMETEX® products, you can reduce the risk of insect infestation to a minimum.

Travel Sheet
| For optimal protection against bed bug bites, the sheet should hang on all sides at least 20cm above the edge of the bed. Make sure that the blanket or sleeping bag is placed within this safety edge and avoid overhanging parts. Observe the safety margin also when used as a support in the open, because insects (ticks, ants, etc.) are only quenched by contact with the sheet (HOT FEET EFFECT). From mosquitoes, it protects as a blanket or cloak.

Pillow Case
| You can fill the pillow case with a pillow or a piece of clothing (sweater, t-shirt or similar).

Sleeping Bag
| The side panel of the sleeping bag is equipped with an auto lock zip to prevent unintentional opening during movement. The insertion compartment at the head can be individually filled with a head cushion or a piece of clothing.

2in1 Luggage Protection
| Fully open the surrounding zip and use the luggage protection as a rack for your suitcase or travel bag. Keep in mind that there should be a safety margin of about 20 cm between your luggage and the edge of the luggage protection. When using the luggage protection as a laundry bag, the slide of the zip should be pushed as far as it will go under the cloth flap. WARNING: Protection against moths is only given if the clothing to be protected has been cleaned before use.

Clothes- & Laundry Bag
| The clothes- & laundry bags offer effective protection only if it is securely locked. Make sure to slide the zip slider under the cloth flap as far as it will go. Use the ribbon of the clothes-bag at the strap opening to seal it. WARNING: Protection against moths only exists if the clothing to be protected has been cleaned before use. With the enclosed tag you can label your clothes- or laundry bag.

Dog Blanket | ATTENTION: Not suitable for cats. Cats lack an important enzyme to degrade Permethrin.

Leisure Blanket | Insects (ticks, ants or similar) will be deterred when they come in contact with the blanket. Therefore make sure to keep a safety margin of at least 20cm when using the blanket outdoor as an underlay. Used as a cape it also provides protection against mosquitoes.

Do PERMETEX® protection products help for bed bug infestation?

In principle, a bedbug infestation must be professionally supervised and combated. The PERMETEX® insect protection sheet is not a substitute for a sustainable combat against bedbugs. However, it is recommended by pest controllers as an accompanying measure during a mission. If you suspect a bedbug problem, contact a professional pest control. On the website of the German Pest Control Association - DSV you will find a suitable pest controller in your area.
